Spinbrush Magnet Swap

This is a WORK IN PROGRESS

Upgrading the magnets in your motor is a quick and easy way to greatly increase the power of your motor. The Crest Spinbrush electric toothbrush has much more powerful magnets than the regular xmod motors, and they are cheap and easy to find.

Required materials:
Crest Spinbrush
Small flathead screwdriver or similar tool (for prying)
Paperclip (any thickness) Small pliers (Optional, to bend paperclip)

Step one: Open your motor.
Remove the endbell of your motor and move the brushes out of the way. Follow the motor opening tutorial if you need instructions.

Step two: Make a magnet hook.
Take a paperclip and unbend the first fold or two. Hold the end of the paperclip with pliers, and bend it to make a small hook.

Step three: Remove one magnet from each motor.
Spin the armature so that an opening between the windings is facing a magnet. Place the hook between the windings and try and hook under the magnet, then pull it up. It may take some force, but the magnet will come free. The magnet may come flying out, so don't let it hit you or anything fragile. Do this for both the Xmod and Spinbrush motors.

Step four: Swap in the new magnet.
You'll see the U bar now flopping around loosely. Take your paperclip and pull the loose end (the end where you removed the magnet) towards the remaining magnet, like to form a teardrop shape. The goal is to move the U bar out of the way so you can drop in the new magnet. When you drop the new magnet in, it should almost suck itself in. Press it down all the way into the can.

Step five: Repeat for the second magnet.
Repeat steps five and six for the second magnets in each motor. It isn't necessary to swap your old magnets into the spinbrush motor, unless you have a use for it. If you mix up the Xmod and Spinbrush magnets, you can pick out the Xmod magnets by their painted edges.

Step six: Reassemble the motor.
Put the brushes back in place and close up the motor. Don't bend the tabs to seal the endbell yet. Test the motor to make sure it spins the right way (clockwise). If the motor spins in reverse, the magnets may be upside down or mixed up. Remove the magnet again and place it the other way around. If that doesn't work, try taking out both magnets and switching their places. When the motor spins the right way, you're ready to seal up the motor for good.
